## The Works archive and Selected work

Product: Auno - Minimal Portfolio FSE WordPress Theme
URL: https://hub.jkdevstudio.com/docs/auno/portfolio/works-archive
Updated: 2026-10-26
Summary: How the Works archive lists your projects, the list, grid and composition views, six projects a page, and how to show Selected work on the home page.
Availability: Pro only.

All your projects live at `/work/`, in the **Works** template that comes with Auno Pro. The page lists six projects at a time in a two-column grid, and visitors can switch it to a list or to a one-column composition.

## What the Works page shows

<figure class="doc-figure" data-align="center"><img src="https://hub.jkdevstudio.com/storage/docs/2026/10/0f5561ea-d98d-4f3e-9c35-a560d1d53603.webp" alt="The Works title with its project count and, on the right, the list, grid and composition view buttons with the grid selected"><figcaption>The view buttons beside the Works title.</figcaption></figure>

:::deflist

Title with the count
: Works (12): the number of published projects follows the title.

Views
: Three buttons beside the title: **List** (a row per project with a small cover, its title and year), **Grid** (the two columns of cards, one on phones) and **Composition** (one large cover after another, with the title, year and an arrow over the cover's foot on hover; touch screens keep them under it). The choice is remembered in the visitor's browser, apart from the choice made on the blog.

Cards
: Each card shows the cover, the title and the year, with the media badges and collage set on the grid, see [project media: galleries and video](https://hub.jkdevstudio.com/docs/auno/portfolio/project-media).

Pagination
: Numbers that swap the projects in place, with addresses such as `/work/page/2/` that open the right page when shared.

:::

The archive always shows six projects a page, whatever [[Settings > Reading]] says for posts.

## Open the page in another view

The grid is where the page starts. To start it as the list or the composition, select the Query block in the **Works** template and choose the view in the **Opens in** field of its **Views** panel. That view's button moves to the front of the three, and a view a visitor picks is still remembered over it.

## Edit the Works page

:::steps

### Open the template

Go to [[Appearance > Editor > Templates]] and open **Works**.

### Change what you need

Edit the intro under the title, pick another pagination style on the Pagination block, or select the Post Template block to change the media settings of the grid.

### Save

Click **Save**. The archive at `/work/` changes on the next load.

:::

## Show your work on the home page

Insert the **Selected work** pattern from **Auno sections** on any page, or start the home page from **Home (with portfolio)** in **Auno pages**. Both show the six latest projects in the same grid, followed by a **View all** link to the archive. See [build the home and about pages](https://hub.jkdevstudio.com/docs/auno/pages-blog-and-patterns/home-and-about).

## Questions

<details><summary>The Works page shows a 404</summary>

WordPress has not picked up the `/work/` address yet. Go to [[Settings > Permalinks]] and click **Save Changes** without changing anything, then reload the page.

</details>

<details><summary>Can I change the address /work/?</summary>

The address is part of the Projects post type in Auno Pro. A child theme or a small plugin can change it with the `register_post_type_args` filter; save the permalinks afterwards.

</details>

<details><summary>Selected work shows the wrong projects</summary>

It shows the six newest by publish date. Change a project's date to move it in or out.

</details>

<details><summary>I set Opens in, and my browser still shows the old view</summary>

Your own earlier pick is remembered in the browser and wins. Open the page in a private window to see what a new visitor gets.
