Integrations install, update and uninstall from one place: the Integrations tab in the theme panel. There is no other route, by design.
The reason is practical rather than restrictive. From there an integration arrives in the version built for your theme, and from there it receives updates.
#The Integrations tab
The tab lists the integrations available for your theme, each with its current state: not installed, installed, active, or an update waiting. Actions sit on the row.
Integrations are delivered as separate plugins so they install and update cleanly, and they are built for our themes, their markup, their settings and their design system. Delivery is the only sense in which they are separate.
#Installing
Open the theme panel
Find the theme menu in the WordPress sidebar and open the Integrations tab.
Pick the integration
Its row says what it adds and what, if anything, it requires.
Install and activate
Both happen from the same row.
After installing, the integration also appears in your normal WordPress plugins list. That is expected: it is a full plugin, delivered through the theme panel.
Keep managing it from the Integrations tab all the same. That is the screen that knows about versions and compatibility with your theme.
An overlay needs its third party plugin installed first.
Contact Form 7, WPML, Weglot and TranslatePress are overlays: our side styles and places what that plugin provides, so installing ours first leaves it with nothing to attach to. The row in the tab names what it requires.
#Updating
Notice of an available update appears in the theme panel, and the update installs from the same row.
The general principle is the one that applies to the whole product: keep integrations current, because they are tested in pairs with the current version of the theme.
#Removing
Select the integration in the Integrations tab and remove it.
Two things to expect afterwards. Settings and any content the integration created are not automatically erased, and the exact behavior depends on the integration.
Theme elements that relied on it return to their inactive state. They do not disappear, and they do not break the page.
#Third party sources, and where support ends
A copy obtained outside the theme panel gets no updates and no compatibility guarantee.
Our integrations are not downloaded from other sites and not installed from an archive somebody sent you. Stated plainly rather than as a threat: we do not support those installs, because we cannot know what is in them.
The mirror of that, about third party plugins in general: you can of course install any plugin you like. The theme is adapted to its own integrations and does not promise to work with somebody else's equivalent of the same feature.
A concrete example: if you use a general purpose newsletter plugin instead of our integration, the form will look and behave the way that plugin's author intended, not the way the theme intended.
#Common questions
Can I install an integration from the plugins screen instead?
No, they are not in the WordPress plugin directory and the theme panel is the only source, which is also what keeps them on the right version for your theme.
An integration is missing from my list
It is not compatible with your theme, since each integration carries its own list of supported products and the panel shows only what genuinely works, which is covered in why the list differs between themes.
Do I need a license for integrations?
The catalog they are downloaded from is served by Hub and access comes with an active licence, while the registry and the screen itself stay visible without one.
Can I deactivate an integration without removing it?
Yes, deactivating leaves the plugin and its settings in place, so switching it back on returns you to exactly where you were.
An install fails partway
The panel has to reach Hub to download anything, so start with the connectivity check on the diagnostics screen, and after that the usual local causes apply: wp-content not writable, or a memory limit too low to unpack the archive.
