Demo Import

Installation

The demo import recreates the content from the theme demo on your site: posts, pages, images, menus, theme settings, and widgets.

#Before you start

  • The theme is installed and the license is activated

  • Every required plugin is installed, including One Click Demo Import

  • Every value in Elisen DashboardStatus is green

  • You have a backup, if the site already has content

Two of those status values decide whether the import finishes, and hosts set both too low by default:

max_file_uploads

Needs to be at least 100. The common default of 20 stops the import partway through the images. It cannot be changed from WordPress, so ask your host or edit php.ini.

max_input_time

Needs 300 or more. The common default is 60.

#Run the import

Open the importer

Go to AppearanceImport Demo Data.

Lower the load if your server is slow

In Elisen DashboardOCDI, turn off Regenerate Thumbnails. Around 90 percent of the import time is image processing, and skipping it here is the difference between finishing and timing out on shared hosting.

Keep AJAX call time at its default. Raising it to the maximum makes timeouts worse, not better.

Start the import and leave the tab open

The import takes a few minutes. Closing the tab stops it partway.

Set your front page

The demo ships six homepages and none is set as the front page. Choose one in SettingsReading.

Rebuild the image sizes

Only if you turned off Regenerate Thumbnails. Run a regenerate thumbnails plugin across the whole media library, the way Why your images look blurry, cropped, or wrong describes.

The site now matches the demo. Clear any caching plugin before you judge the result, since a cached page from before the import will look broken.

#If the import fails

Disable caching, optimization and security plugins for the duration of the import. They block the requests the importer makes.

Every error code and its fix is in the Troubleshooting article, along with what to do when the import finishes but the footer or homepage looks wrong.

Server values the theme expects are listed in Server requirements for jkdevstudio themes.
