Advanced archives - Verba

The advanced archive is the native theme archive with the full Pro listing behind it. You don't build anything by hand, and it doesn't depend on a page builder. The structure is fixed and everything inside it is adjustable, which makes it the recommended route.

Turn it on at VerbaTheme OptionsArchiveGeneral: set Archive Source to Advanced. The same field offers Native (the Customizer archive, and the default), Elementor Template, and Block Pattern. While it's on Native, the rest of the page stays closed.

#The four tabs

General

Which sections the archive has and how they sit together: the featured post and the highlight section on or off, the page header and sidebar switches, padding, the spacing between sections, and Frame Mode, which separates sections with full-width dividers. The page header, search results, author page, and sidebar groups are here too.

Listing

The main list of posts, with the full set of card types and settings. It's the same listing used everywhere, so the details live in Listing settings and query and Customizing the look of a listing. Pagination and Content Injection (content between the cards, see Ad banners and in-listing insertions) are set here.

Featured Post

One post shown large above the list. Featured post placement puts it above the whole listing section or above the grid only.

Highlight Section

A second, smaller listing under the main one, as a grid, slider, or ticker. Archive contexts picks the archives that show it: the posts page, categories, tags, custom taxonomies, authors, dates, search results, or post type archives.

#The page header

The top block of the page: title, description, breadcrumbs, and background image. It's a separate layer from the listing, which is why people look for it in the wrong place.

The Page Header group on the General tab offers Show Breadcrumbs, Layout (default, boxed, or full width), Background, Alignment, Show Subtitle, Show Related Image with Related Image Opacity, and Show Result Count.

The title is built from the category, tag, or author name. On a category archive, the related image comes from the category's own media, so one setting produces a different header on every category. See Category fields.

A title over a bright photograph is unreadable without dimming, and Related Image Opacity is the setting that fixes it.

#When one archive needs to differ

The archive settings apply to every archive at once. What a single category, tag, or author can change is its own Featured Post (pinned above that archive's listing), and for categories, the header image and icon. See Object-level settings.

Can I have different card types on different archives?

Not from the archive settings, which apply to all of them. The Highlight Section can at least be limited to some archive types with Archive contexts.

The sidebar is set but doesn't appear

The Archive Sidebar widget area is empty, and an empty sidebar isn't rendered. Fill it at AppearanceWidgets.

Do these settings apply to search results too?

Yes, search results render as an archive. The Search Results group on the General tab adds the title format, a search form, a no-results message, and what the search looks through: titles only, titles and excerpts, or the full text, which content types it returns, and whether it also matches category and tag names.
