This article covers functionality available to customers on the Pro version.

The summarize row is a set of links, and the theme never contacts an AI service. Clicking one opens that chat in a new tab with a prompt already filled in, including the address of the article.

There are no API keys or per-request costs, and no data leaves your site. The summary is produced by the service, on the reader's side, under their own account.

The summary depends on whether that chat can open your URL. A password-protected or unindexed post can't be summarized this way.

#Set it up

The row belongs to the advanced post layout, so first set Single Post Source at VerbaTheme OptionsSingle PostGeneral to Advanced. Then go to VerbaTheme OptionsSingle PostBody, group Summarize With AI. The block is off by default.

Offers the row of links.

Where the row appears. Above the article (just under the TL;DR), in the reading bar, or both.

Which AI chats appear, in the order you set. By default ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, and Grok appear in that order. Microsoft Copilot is available but off by default. Clearing the list hides the row.

Short text before the icons. Empty leaves the icons alone.

The message pre-filled in the chat.

The reading bar placement needs the reading bar itself switched on. The panel says so next to the field.

#Writing the prompt

Two variables are available: {url} for the article address and {title} for its title. One prompt covers the whole site; it isn't set per post.

A few that work:

Summarize this article for me: {url}

Read {url} and give me the five main points as a short list.

Explain the article "{title}" at {url} in plain language, as if I am new to the subject.

#Should you turn it on

It's off by default because the trade-off cuts both ways.

The row saves a reader time, and some readers will use it whether you offer it or not. It also invites them to go and read a retelling instead of your article, which matters if your site earns from attention or if the writing itself is the point.

For news and reference material it's usually fine. For essays, criticism, and ad-supported publishing, think about it first.

Does this cost me anything?

No. There's no account, no key, and no request from your server. It's a link with a query string.

Is this the same as the AI Blog integration?

No. AI Blog uses your own AI provider to write fields such as the TL;DR on your site. This row only sends the reader elsewhere. See AI Blog integration.

Can I add a service that isn't in the list?

The destinations list is what the theme ships with. If a service you need is missing, tell support what it is; that's how the list grows.

Will the AI see content behind a paywall?

No. It fetches the page as an anonymous visitor, so it sees what a logged-out reader sees.
