Customizing the look of a listing - Verba

This page covers how a listing looks. What it shows and where the posts come from is in Listing settings and query.

#Listing type

Grid

Rows and columns. The default for archives and most page sections, and the only type with pagination.

Slider

One screen at a time, moved by arrows or a swipe.

Carousel

A strip with presets, including Hero, which features one post at a time. The card type doesn't apply to it.

Ticker

A single moving line, for headlines rather than for browsing.

Singular

One post, for a block that features a single item.

Listing Type is chosen on the block and the Elementor widget. An archive is always a grid. Term listings have grid, slider, ticker, and singular.

Listing type and card type are chosen separately, so the same card works in a grid and in a slider.

#Card type

Card

Media on top, text below. The standard.

List

Media to the side, text beside it. Denser, and better for long lists.

Overlay

Text over the image. For showcase rows, and it needs strong images.

Turning the thumbnail off in Card Parts gives you a text row with no media, which suits secondary selections where images would compete with the main content.

Term listings add a Label card type, for a compact row of category pills.

#Layout

Columns is set per screen size. Alongside it: row and column gaps, card spacing, body alignment, and the thumbnail's aspect ratio.

#Section title and promo bar

A listing can carry a Section Title (heading, subtitle, and a "view all" link) and a Promo Bar above it. With them, the list reads as a section of the page.

#Where global styles take over

The listing inherits colors, fonts, and corner radius from the theme, so a brand change doesn't mean repainting thirty blocks. See Colors, fonts, and style kits.

Can I give one listing different colors?

Not the cards. The listing's Background setting changes the surface behind the whole block, and the cards follow the theme so the site stays coherent.

The cards in a row have different heights

Set Max Lines for the title and the excerpt. Uneven text length is what makes cards uneven.
