Sources and citations

A list under the read also block where you show what the article is built on: links to the material you used, and quotes from people or publications.

Two levels, and separating them saves confusion. The block is switched on once, in the post feature settings. It is filled in on each post separately, in the Editorial panel next to read also.

#Two kinds of row

Every row is one of two types, and everything else about the row is the same.

Material the article relies on, marked with an external link icon.

Citation

Words from a person or a publication, marked with a quotation icon.

#The fields on a row

There are no separate fields for "publication" and "person." The same three fields cover both, and what you put in them decides which one it reads as.

#The global setting

Only the heading above the list is configured globally: its text, its tag, and its size.

Tag and size are separate on purpose, so the heading can look like an h5 without occupying a level in the document structure. An empty heading text means a list with no heading.

#When nothing appears

The second candidate for the same complaint: the block is switched on but the post list is empty, or the post has rows and the block is switched off. Both gates have to be open.

#Why bother

Beyond the obvious credibility, a source list gives a reader a route out of your article and back into it. Somebody who checks your sources and finds them solid trusts the next piece you publish, and increasingly, so do the systems that summarize and cite articles.

Where exactly does the block appear?

Under read also, near the end of the post, which is where a reader looks for it after finishing rather than before starting.

Can I reorder the rows?

Yes, drag them in the repeater. They appear in the order you set.
