Ad banners and in-listing insertions

Header and footer

#What draws a banner

There is a ready-made banner element, available in two forms: an Elementor widget and an editor block. You do not need a separate banner plugin. See Elementor widgets and The block editor.

It is not an ad network and not a rotator. The element shows what you put in it, and nothing more.

#Where it can go

The point of this page: there are many places, and between them they cover almost every sensible position on a page.

  • Widget areas and the sidebar. The classic spot beside the content. See Basic settings.
  • Content zones. The areas before and after the content of pages and archives, which take anything. See Content zones and insertions.
  • Insertion points inside a post. After the header, before the body, after the body, in the post footer. Same page.
  • The call to action above the footer. A wide band at the bottom. See Call to action.
  • The site background. An edge case, but possible: a banner can live on the page backdrop.

If you can see a place on the page, you can almost certainly put something in it.

#Insertion between posts in a listing

The most interesting option here, and the reason this page exists.

A post listing can inject arbitrary content directly between the cards. The banner slots into the flow, and the list is not interrupted or split into two separate listings.

Why that matters: the usual way to put a banner in a feed is to cut the list in half and assemble both parts by hand. Here it is one setting on the listing itself.

The same thing is available inside a single post, so a banner can sit in the middle of an article text.

Call it what it is: content injection, not banner insertion. A banner is only one of the things you can put there. The field takes anything, up to an entire finished section.

The three content sources are the same ones used everywhere else in the theme: your own content in a normal editor with all blocks and shortcodes, an Elementor template, or a block pattern. See Content zones and insertions.

The settings on an insertion:

After which card in the list it appears.

One of four options, including inverted and dark.

With separate values for tablet and phone.

By default the insertion is drawn once, in the first batch. Turn this on and it also appears in the results from load more and dynamic pagination.

Background and padding apply only to your own content. An Elementor template and a block pattern bring their own styling.

Insertion is available only for the grid listing type. Slider, carousel, ticker, and singular do not have it, and that is deliberate rather than a missing control: an insertion breaks a flow, and only a grid has a flow. Pagination has the same limit, so the two travel together.

See Post listings and Listing settings.

#Practical notes

Banners from ad networks are third-party code. Put it in the same zones, but remember it can be heavy and slow the page down. See Performance.

If the network sets cookies, that is a consent question. See Cookie consent and Marketing surfaces and analytics.

My insertion does not appear in load more results

Turn on repeat in dynamically loaded pages. By default it renders once, in the first batch.

The insertion field is missing from my listing settings

The listing type is not grid. Switch to grid, or use a content zone instead.
