#No image, no icon
Unlike a category, a tag has no media field and no icon. Tags are presented as text throughout the theme, so those fields do not exist rather than being hidden somewhere.
Saying it plainly saves you looking: if you want a visual identity for a topic, use a category.

Should I use categories or tags?
Categories are the structure of your site, few in number, and they get images, icons, and their own look. Tags are labels across that structure, many in number, and they stay plain. If you are unsure, it is probably a category.
