Menu item options - Verba

With Pro, every menu item gets its own settings on top of the standard WordPress fields. Open AppearanceMenus and expand an item: the panels appear under the standard fields. These settings affect that item only.

Which panels you see depends on the item's level. Every item has Menu Item Options. Top-level items add Submenu Options; nested items add Submenu Item.

#Menu Item Options: pill and icon

When the site uses SPA page transitions, a Skip page transition switch also appears, which opens that link as a full page load.

#Submenu Options: the submenu type

The main field for top-level items, and the one that turns on the larger dropdowns. These options apply to the theme navigation only.

Plain

An ordinary dropdown list, built from the item's nested items.

Columns megamenu

A wide panel with the nested items laid out in columns. See Mega menus.

Categories megamenu

A panel of categories with their posts, assembled automatically. See Category mega menus.

Category posts

The category's recent posts on hover, for an item that points at a category. Category Post Counter adds the post count beside the link. See Category sub-menus.

Plain and columns are built from nested items, so they're empty without them. The two category types assemble themselves.

A plain submenu has three more options, and only one can be on at a time: Split plain submenu into columns (after a set Items per column), Allow nested submenus (child submenus open to the side), or Enable banner column.

Show subtitles in submenu (plain and columns) shows each nested item's subtitle under its link.

#The banner column

Plain and columns submenus can carry a banner card as an extra column: Banner image, Banner link, Show image caption, and Open in a new tab. It's where a seasonal promotion belongs if you have one.

#Submenu Item: the subtitle

Nested items have a Page subtitle: a line of supporting text under the item in the submenu. It shows when the parent item has Show subtitles in submenu on.

My mega menu is empty

The type is columns or plain, and the item has no nested items. Add them in the menu editor first.

I can't find the submenu type on an item

You're editing a nested item. Submenu Options only appears on top-level items.

Can I set an icon for a submenu item?

Yes, Menu Item Options is on every item. Icons read best on top-level items and quickly become noise on a long list.
