Post formats - Verba

A post format is a standard WordPress property: a label for the kind of material, set in the side panel of the editor. It isn't a category and isn't a tag.

In Verba the format changes how the post is presented, both in its header and on its card in listings.

Supported formats: video, gallery, audio, image, link, aside, and status.

#Format media fields

Three formats add their own panel of fields, and the panel appears only after you choose that format.

Video Format

Media Type (video or 3D model), then for a video the Video Source (self-hosted, YouTube, or Vimeo), the file or the URL, and a Poster Image.

Audio Format

Audio Type picks a plain audio file or a podcast episode. A podcast episode adds the show name, season, episode number and title, the episode audio file, and External Links, each with a label and a URL.

Gallery Format

Gallery Images, the set of pictures the header shows.

How the media plays is set once for the whole site, not per post: VerbaTheme OptionsSingle PostHeader, group Post Format. That's where the video display mode (thumbnail, inline video, or video modal), autoplay, muting, looping, the gallery display (inline slider, clickable grid, or a cover image that opens full screen), and where the audio and podcast player sits all live.

#The 3D model

Verba can show a rotatable 3D model in a post instead of a video.

WordPress has a fixed list of post formats, and a theme can't add to it.

Supported files: .glb, .gltf, and .usdz. Upload them to the standard media library; the Pro plugin allows those file types itself. The stage shape and whether readers can turn the model or it rotates on its own are in the same Post Format group.

#What isn't a post format

Before and after comparisons and interactive hotspots on an image are blocks. You insert them into the text of any post, and they don't depend on the format at all. See Registered blocks.

#Formats in listings

A post card shows the format mark, and some card types can play the media directly in the list. See Listing settings and query.

Do I have to use formats?

No. A post with no format is a standard article, which is what most posts are.

My video format post shows no video

The format is set but its media fields are empty. Open the Video Format panel and add the file or the URL. If they're filled in, check that Single Post Source is Advanced: the native page doesn't play format media in the header.

My overlay header switched back to the default on a video post

Overlay and overlap would lay the title over the player's controls, so a video, gallery, or 3D post falls back to the default header. See Post header styles.

Can I change a post format after publishing?

Yes. The media fields for the previous format keep their values, so switching back restores what was there.
