Key points - Verba

This article covers functionality available to customers on the Pro version.

A short list of what the reader takes away from the article. It helps somebody scanning before they commit, and somebody coming back a week later trying to remember what was in it.

The TL;DR is prose about the topic; the points are a list of conclusions. Your site can have both, one, or neither.

#Set it up

Use the advanced post layout

At VerbaTheme OptionsSingle PostGeneral, set Single Post Source to Advanced. On the default Native source the key points never render.

Switch the block on

Go to VerbaTheme OptionsSingle PostBody, group Key Points, and check Show key points. It's on by default.

Add the points on the post

In the post editor, in the Editorial panel, use the Key points field. Add one row per takeaway and type it in Point. Icon is optional and replaces the default mark for that row. Drag rows to reorder them.

With no rows filled in, the block doesn't appear on that post, even with the switch on.

#Appearance

The title above the list. Empty shows the list alone.

An optional glyph in front of the heading.

An icon before each takeaway. Rows without their own icon get a check rosette.

The key points are a plain list on the page, so they sit under the TL;DR card without competing with it.

#Writing good points

One row, one idea. A point the length of a paragraph turns the block into a second introduction, which is what the reader wanted to skip.

Three to five rows is the working range. Don't number them by hand; the marks already set them apart.

Should every post have key points?

No. They suit explanatory and practical articles. On a personal essay or a news item they read as filler.

Can I reorder points after publishing?

Yes, drag the rows in the editor and update the post.
