The posts page is the page WordPress uses to list your latest posts: your front page, when SettingsReading is set to show latest posts, or the page you picked as the Posts page there. In the free theme, what appears at the top of it is set at AppearanceCustomizePosts Page.

#Choose what opens the page

On the General tab, Posts Page Header has four options:

Page Header: The standard title band, with the site tagline as its subtitle unless you write your own on the Page Header tab.
Showcase: A block of selected posts shown large, set up on the Showcase and Card tabs.
Author Featured: An introduction to one author, set up on the Author Featured tab.
Don't display anything: The list of posts starts straight away.

The list of posts under it looks like your archives, because it's drawn by the same template. Its card style, pagination, and sidebar are set at AppearanceCustomizeArchive. See Archives in the free theme.

#Set up a showcase

Display mode decides the shape: Composite (an editorial layout in three columns), Carousel (one post at a time, with autoplay, arrows, and dots), or Single post.

Posts Source picks what goes in: the latest posts, sticky posts, random posts, or posts you pick by hand, in your own order. Posts Count sets how many, five by default.

The Card tab styles the showcase cards: the card style, the title tag, the carousel height, and the scrim over the images.

The showcase doesn't remove its posts from the list below it. With Latest as the source, your newest posts appear twice on the same screen. Use sticky or hand-picked posts for the showcase, so the list below starts with different ones.

#Introduce an author

Author Featured turns the top of the page into a short profile, which suits a personal blog or a column. Pick the Author, then add a position, a subtitle, a location, a badge, social links, and Workplaces: logos and names of places the author works or has worked.

#Other options on the General tab

Grid Header Text puts a heading above the list of posts. Ignore Sticky Posts stops sticky posts from jumping to the top of the list, so everything stays in date order. Section Gap and the top and bottom padding set the spacing.

I changed Posts Page settings and my front page didn't change

Your front page is a static page, not the posts page. These settings only apply to the page that lists your posts. Check SettingsReading.

The showcase is empty

The source found nothing: Sticky with no sticky posts, or Hand-picked with no posts added. Switch the source or add posts.
