Writing a post in Verba - Verba

Writing in Verba is ordinary WordPress. With the Pro plugin, the theme adds blocks and fields alongside what WordPress already gives you.

#The ordinary part

Create a post at PostsAdd New. Title, text in blocks, featured image, category and tags, excerpt, publish date. If any of that is new, the WordPress documentation covers it better than a theme manual can.

Three of those decide how the post looks outside its own page, and they're the ones people skip:

Featured image

Without one, the card in listings shows no image, or the placeholder you set under Thumbnail Fallback at AppearanceCustomizeVerba ThemeGeneralBranding.

Category

A post with no category drops out of category-based selections, so it will be missing from listings you expected it in.

Excerpt

Write it yourself. Left empty, WordPress cuts the opening text at a fixed length, usually mid-sentence.

#What Pro adds

Blocks. Verba's own blocks sit in the inserter next to the standard ones, in their own category, and you add them the same way. What each one does is in Registered blocks.

Fields. Extra panels under the editor and in the side panel: the subtitle, the summary and key points, read also, sources and citations, the sponsored mark, and the header style for one post. See Post fields.

The advanced post layout. Pro draws the article with its own layout once Single Post Source at VerbaTheme OptionsSingle PostGeneral is set to Advanced. The default is Native, which keeps the free theme's page, so the reading aids and the other Pro blocks above and below the text only appear after that switch.

#Why a post doesn't look like the demo

Almost always one of five things:

• No featured image.
• No category.
• Single Post Source is still Native, so the Pro layout isn't drawing the post.
• The Pro fields are empty, so the reading aids have nothing to show.
• The post has a different post format than you expect. See Post formats.

Do I need Pro to publish posts?

No. The free theme renders posts completely. Pro adds the extra fields, the reading aids, and the settings that control them.

Can I use a page builder for one post?

Editing one post's content with Elementor keeps the theme's post page around it, so the header, reading aids and footer still work. Replacing the whole post page with an Elementor template is a site-wide switch and costs you the reading aids on every post. See Building a post with an Elementor template before you decide.
