Two or three sentences answering "what is this about" before somebody decides whether to read. A summary, not a teaser and not the opening line of the article.

It is not the same thing as the excerpt. The excerpt is what people see in listings and in social previews. The TL;DR is what they see once they are already inside the post. Neither substitutes for the other.

#Set it up

Switch the block on

Go to VerbaTheme OptionsSingle PostBody, group Summary (TL;DR), and check show TL;DR summary. It is on by default.

Write the summary on the post

In the post editor, in the Editorial panel under the content, fill in the Summary (TL;DR) field. An empty field means no card on that post.

The switch on its own shows nothing. This is the most common question about the feature: it is enabled globally and the post field is empty.

#Appearance

The title above the card. Empty removes the heading and leaves the text.

The HTML tag of that heading. For most posts a paragraph is the honest choice, because a TL;DR is not a section of the article.

How large it looks, independently of the tag.

The surface the card is painted on. Default, secondary, accent, inverted, or dark.

#Writing a good one

Three or four sentences at most. A longer TL;DR stops being a TL;DR and starts competing with the first screen of the article.

If your site runs both the TL;DR and key points, give them separate jobs. The summary answers "what is this about." The points answer "what do I take away." Saying the same thing twice, one paragraph apart, wastes the reader attention on both.

Can the summary be generated automatically?

That is a different feature, the summarize with AI block, which generates on request rather than storing text on the post.

Does the TL;DR affect search results?

It is ordinary text on the page, so it can be read and quoted like any other. It does not replace your meta description, which is set by your SEO plugin.
