Listing settings, group by group

Archives and listings Pro
This article covers functionality available to customers on the Pro version.

A post listing has the same groups in every editor: the block inspector, the Elementor panel, Theme Options, and a menu item. They also come in the same order, so you can use this page as a map whichever editor you're in. When a group is missing on one surface, Post and term listings explains why.

#Layout

Start here. What you pick in Layout decides which groups show up below it.

Listing Type

Grid, slider, carousel, ticker, or singular. Each type except grid and singular has its own group further down. You can change the type on the block and the widget; an archive is always a grid.

Card Type and Carousel Preset

The card design. A carousel takes a preset instead.

Card Parts and Meta Parts

What each card shows: the thumbnail, category, title, excerpt, meta row, read more button, and so on. Meta Parts picks what goes in the meta row. Turning a part off also hides its settings group.

Format Views

The post formats that play on the card instead of showing a still image.

Content Injection, Show Section Title, Show Promo Bar, Pagination

Each switch shows its own group further down when you turn it on.

#Appearance

Columns per screen size comes first. Below it are the card layout (body alignment, direction, and how the items line up), the gaps between rows, columns, and the pagination, the spacing inside a card, and the text padding on overlay cards.

You'll only see the group for the listing type you picked.

Ticker

Item gap and width, the length of one loop, direction, pause on hover, speeding up while the page scrolls, the separator between items, and the fade at the edges.

Slider

Slides per view, slide gap, arrows, the slide animation, the pagination style, autoplay, loop, and where the arrows and the counter sit.

Carousel

Loop, autoplay, the Ken Burns effect, slide speed, arrows, vertical position, the thumbnail strip, and the progress ring around autoplay.

#Meta

The meta row and the badges, in subgroups. General has the icons and the activity style. Category sets the label size, how many categories show, the icon, and the link. Author has the avatar and, with the co-authors integration, settings for multiple authors. Review places the score and sets its style, and Meta Row sets the separator. Then come the Format Badge, Unique Status, and Sponsored Badge subgroups, and the Counter that numbers the cards.

#Thumbnail

Aspect ratio, image size, the thumbnail width on list cards, and whether the image links to the post. You can also lay a color overlay over the image and set the background behind an overlay card's text.

#Title/Excerpt

Heading Tag is the HTML level that search engines and screen readers see. Heading Size is how big the title looks. The two are separate, so a card title can be an h3 that looks like an h2. The title and the excerpt both have Max Lines and Trim Length, and the excerpt also has a Source.

#Post Format

How each format behaves on a card. Video, 3D Object, Gallery, Audio, and Podcast each have a subgroup with the display mode, autoplay where it applies, and the controls that format shows. See Post formats.

The button at the end of the card: label, style, size, icon, and an accessible label for screen readers.

#Pagination

Appears when Pagination is on in Layout, and only on a grid. Pick a Mode (numbered, load more, or infinite scroll), then set the alignment, Dynamic (no page reload), the status line, the end notice, and the Load More Button.

#Content Injection

Appears when Content Injection is on. It puts your own content between the cards. You choose after which post it goes, whether it repeats on later pages, and what it is: an Elementor template, a block pattern, or content you write in place. It also has a background and padding. See Ad banners and in-listing insertions.

#Section Title and Promo Bar

Each appears when its switch in Layout is on. Section Title adds a heading above the listing with an icon, eyebrow label, title, subtitle, alignment, and a button. Promo Bar adds a highlighted strip with a label, description, background, and button. The standalone Section Title and Promo Bar blocks and widgets use the same groups.

#Query

Where the posts come from. In the block inspector it's the last panel; in Elementor it has its own Query tab.

Archive Mode

Block and widget only. The listing shows the posts of the archive it's placed on, and the rest of the query is hidden.

Source

Latest, random, handpicked, sticky, reviews, or sponsored posts.

Filters

Categories, tags, and authors to include or exclude, a post format, and a date range.

Sorting

Order By and Order.

Count

Posts Per Page, Offset, Ignore Sticky Posts, Exclude Current Post, and Avoid Duplicates.

With the AI Blog integration active, the query also has AI Mode. Every query field is covered in Listing settings and query.

#Common questions

How do I change the number of posts in a listing?

Set Posts Per Page in the Count group of the Query settings. In Elementor that's the Query tab of the Post Listing widget. In the block editor it's the Query panel of the block.

How do I show an ad between the posts?

Turn on Content Injection in Layout. In the Content Injection group, set After Post to the card it should follow, then pick the Injection Type: an Elementor template, a block pattern, or custom content. Turn on Repeat on Dynamic Pages if the ad should also show in posts loaded by the load more button or by pagination without a page reload.

Two listings on one page show the same posts

Turn on Avoid Duplicates in the Count group of the second listing. It skips posts that a listing above it has already shown. You can also set an Offset to skip a fixed number of posts.

How do I show posts from one category only?

Pick the category in Categories: Include under Filters in the query. You can pick more than one, and a post from any of them qualifies. Categories: Exclude does the opposite.

How do I choose the exact posts myself?

Set Source to Handpicked and pick them in Handpicked Posts. They show in the order you pick them.

How do I add pagination or a load more button?

Set Listing Type to Grid, turn on Pagination in Layout, and choose the Mode in the Pagination group. Other listing types have no pagination.

How do I keep the current article out of a listing on a post page?

Turn on Exclude Current Post in the Count group.

How do I add a heading and a "view all" link above a listing?

Turn on Show Section Title in Layout. In the Section Title group, write the title, then turn on Show Button and set Button Text and Button URL.

Cards in a row have different heights

Set Max Lines for the title and the excerpt in Title/Excerpt. Cards get uneven when the text lengths differ.

How do I hide the author, the date, or the thumbnail on cards?

Remove the part from Card Parts in Layout, or from Meta Parts for anything in the meta row.
