Post header styles

The post header is everything above the article text: title, subtitle, category, author, date, reading time, breadcrumbs, and the main media.

A header style does not decide what is shown. It decides how those pieces are arranged. Which pieces appear is set separately, in the same tab.

#The five styles

Default

Title and meta above the media, in a straightforward column. Works with anything, including posts with no image.

Overlay

Text sits on top of the image. The most dramatic option, and the one that needs a strong, uncluttered photograph.

Two-side

Text on one side, media on the other. Good for wide screens and portrait images.

Featured

A larger, more prominent treatment for material you want to look important.

Overlap

The text block overlaps the media, sitting partly on it and partly below.

The style is chosen globally at VerbaTheme OptionsSingle PostHeader, and overridden on one post by its own field. The "same as the site" value on the post returns it to the global choice. See Post fields.

#Headers and post formats

Each style adapts to the type of media the post carries. A video post shows the player in the header, a gallery shows a swipeable set, an audio post shows the player, and a 3D post shows the model.

The practical consequence: test a style on a post with the format you actually publish. Overlay looks superb over a large photograph and falls apart on a post with no featured image at all.

#What is configured alongside

The same VerbaTheme OptionsSingle PostHeader tab holds the composition and order of the meta line, the thumbnail treatment and its caption, and whether breadcrumbs appear.

One post needs a different header than the rest

Set it in the post Appearance panel. That field always beats the global choice, and clearing it hands control back.

The header shows no image

The post has no featured image, or its post format is pointing the header at media fields that are empty.
