A block pattern is a ready-made piece of layout for the WordPress editor. You can make one the source of your single posts, and then every post is drawn by that pattern instead of by the theme's own page.

The choice is at VerbaTheme OptionsSingle PostGeneral, group Layout, in Single Post Source: Native, Advanced, Elementor Template, or Block Pattern.

#What it costs

The pattern replaces the whole post page. The theme's header, footer blocks, comments, and every setting for the native and advanced layouts stop applying. You get freedom of composition and you take on everything else.

The pattern is also the same for every post, so it only shows the current post's title, text, and image if you build it from the blocks that read them: Title, Content, Featured Image, and Comments from the editor's theme blocks. A pattern made of ordinary paragraphs and images shows that same fixed content on every article.

The theme's reading elements (the summary, the key points, the table of contents, the reading bar) don't appear in a pattern, and there's no block for them.

A pattern earns its place for a site built around one kind of material, such as photo essays. As a replacement for ordinary posts across the whole site, it usually costs more than it gives.

#How to do it

Build the pattern

Create it in the editor like any block layout, with the post blocks above where the post's own content should go, and save it as a pattern. It then appears in the source list.

Point the setting at it

Go to VerbaTheme OptionsSingle PostGeneral, set Single Post Source to Block Pattern, and pick yours in Single Post Block Pattern.

Check a real post

Open a published article, not a draft with two paragraphs. Long content is where a pattern shows what it doesn't handle.

Can I use a pattern for some posts and native for others?

No. The source setting is global. For one-off layouts, keep posts on the native or advanced source and build the special page as a page instead.

My posts all show the same text

The pattern has fixed content where the post's own should be. Replace it with the Content block, and the title with the Title block.

My TL;DR and key points disappeared

They're drawn by the advanced layout, which a pattern replaces. Go back to the Advanced source to get them back.

The post page is empty

No pattern is chosen in Single Post Block Pattern, or the chosen one was deleted. Pick one again.
