Category sub-menus - Verba
A category sub-menu shows a category's latest posts when a reader hovers its menu item. It only works on a menu item that points at a category.
#Add a category menu item
At AppearanceMenus, add the category from the Categories box, not as a custom link. The theme knows which category sits behind that item, so it can show its posts and post count. A custom link to the same URL gets none of that.
#In the free theme
The settings are on the Categories tab of AppearanceCustomizeVerba ThemeNavigation. Category Posts Submenu turns the panel on for every category item in the menu at once.
A post count beside every category item. It works with or without the panel.

Stretches the panel across the navigation width. Turn it off to set a Submenu Width.
How many posts the panel shows.
The category name, post count, and archive link above the posts.
Card or overlay, with the card parts and spacing below it.
#With Pro
Pro makes it a choice per item: set Submenu type to Category posts on the category items that should open a panel, and leave the others plain. See Menu item options.
In a menu with ten categories, the global switch turns every hover into a panel of posts. Per item is usually the right answer.
My category item shows no posts
Either the item is a custom link rather than a category item, or the category has no published posts.
Can I show a post count without the panel?
Yes. Category Post Counters is its own switch and doesn't need the posts panel.
