Breadcrumbs

Breadcrumbs are the short trail above a title that shows where a page sits, like Home, then a category, then the post. Verba draws them in the free theme. The site-wide settings are at AppearanceCustomizeGeneralBreadcrumbs.

#Turn them on or off

Enable Breadcrumbs is the master switch, and it's on by default. Turn it off and the trail disappears from every template at once, whatever the other settings say.

Show on phones keeps the trail on narrow screens. Turn it off when the header area feels crowded on a phone; desktop keeps its trail.

#Choose where they appear

Each place with a title has its own switch, so you can keep the trail on archives and drop it on posts:

• Pages: Show Breadcrumbs on the Page Header tab of AppearanceCustomizePages.
• Archives: the same switch on the Page Header tab of AppearanceCustomizeArchive.
• The posts page: the same switch on the Page Header tab of AppearanceCustomizePosts Page.
• Single posts: Show breadcrumbs on the Header tab of AppearanceCustomizeSingle Post.

#Where the trail comes from

The free theme builds the trail itself, from the page's position in WordPress: its category, its parent page, or the archive it belongs to.

With Pro, you can take the trail from an SEO plugin instead, so the page shows the same trail your SEO plugin builds. That choice is covered in General: optimization.

I turned on Show Breadcrumbs for archives and still see nothing

Check Enable Breadcrumbs first. With the master switch off, no per-page setting can bring the trail back.

The trail shows on desktop but not on my phone

Show on phones is off. Turn it on at AppearanceCustomizeGeneralBreadcrumbs.
