Category fields
Categories get their own fields on the term edit screen, at PostsCategories, in the Category options group.
#Category media
What shows in this category header and on its cards. None, an image, or a video.
The image, for the image option.
Self-hosted, YouTube, or Vimeo, for the video option. Each source then asks for the file or the URL.
This visual is used in two places: the header of the category archive, and any card where the category itself is shown. Set it once and both follow.
Video headers look striking and cost bandwidth on every visit to that archive. A short, quiet, well-compressed clip is the difference between a category page people admire and one they wait for.

A small mark next to the name, wherever the theme shows categories as a list.
#Featured post
Pin one post above this archive listing.
The same field exists on tags and on user profiles, and it behaves the same way in all three: one post, lifted out of the list and placed above it.

My category image does not appear on the archive
Check that the media type is set to image, not none, and that the archive header style you are using actually shows a visual. Some header styles are text only.
Can a category have both an image and a video?
No, the media field picks one. Set the video and it replaces the image in the places that visual is used.
